Astro runs on an AI provider that you connect. You can use a subscription
you already pay for, or an API key. About 2 minutes.

## Subscription or API key

Most people start with a subscription and Companion. An API key is the
simpler choice when you do not want to keep an app running.

## Providers you can connect

Image generation in FounderHQ needs one of the providers marked Yes.

## Connect a subscription

1. Open [Settings → AI Provider](https://app.getfounderhq.com/?openSettings=ai-provider).
2. Press **Connect with Claude**, **Connect with ChatGPT**, or
   **Connect with Google**.
3. Approve the connection in the tab that opens. ChatGPT shows a code for
   you to enter there.
4. Come back to FounderHQ.

A subscription also needs a paired [Companion](/companion) to run on.

## Connect an API key

1. Create a key in the provider's developer console. The provider card
   links to it.
2. Paste the key into the card and save.

## Verify


The provider shows **Connected**. Press **Test** to check that it answers.
Then ask Astro something in any product.

## Manage your providers

| Control | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Set as default** | Astro uses this provider first. |
| **Active** switch | Pauses a provider without removing it. |
| **Test** | Sends a small request to check the connection. |
| **Remove** | Disconnects it. |

**Reconnect** on a provider means its sign-in expired. Connect it again.

## Share AI with your team

A provider belongs to the person who connected it. Owners and admins can
let the team share, in [Settings → Organization](https://app.getfounderhq.com/?openSettings=organization), under
**Organization AI policy**:

| **Shared AI credentials** | A member with no provider of their own uses one connected by a teammate. |
| **Shared companion devices** | A member with no Companion of their own uses one paired by a teammate. |

Press **Save changes** after changing a switch.
