# Set up Compose (https://www.getfounderhq.com/docs/compose/set-up)

Compose reads your LinkedIn posts through a Chrome extension, in your own
signed-in browser. Setup takes about 5 minutes. The first import then runs
by itself.

<Callout title="Before you start">
Use Chrome, and sign in to LinkedIn in it. You also need an
[AI provider](/account/ai-providers) connected.
</Callout>

## 1. Install the extension

Open [Compose](https://app.getfounderhq.com/compose). The setup starts by itself the first time.
Press **Download extension** and add the extension to Chrome.

The extension is listed in Chrome as **FounderHQ Companion**. It is not
the [Companion app](/companion) for your computer: that is a separate
program.

## 2. Pair the extension

1. Click the extension's icon in the Chrome toolbar.
2. Press **Connect FounderHQ**. The extension shows a device code.
3. Press **Open approval page**.
4. Check that the code on the page matches the one in the extension, then
   press **Approve**.

Back in Compose, press **Check connection**.

## 3. Point Astro at your profile

Enter your LinkedIn handle: the part of your profile address after
`linkedin.com/`. A personal profile looks like `in/jane-doe`. A company
page looks like `company/acme`.

## 4. Let the import run

The extension opens LinkedIn in your browser and reads your profile and
your posts. Keep Chrome open while it works. The first import reads up to
250 posts.

When it finishes, Compose shows your strongest posts. Press **Start now**.

## 5. Let Astro learn your voice

Astro reads your own posts and describes how you write. This needs at
least 8 posts of your own. With fewer, Compose skips this step and Astro
drafts from your strongest posts.

Press **Open Compose**.

## Verify

Your profile is at the top of the Compose sidebar. Open the switcher and
choose **Manage profiles**: your profile shows **In use**.

## What the extension reads

- Your name, headline, about text, experience, and follower count
- Your recent posts
- The reactions, comments, reposts, and impressions LinkedIn shows on
  them

It reads only what LinkedIn shows you in your own browser. It does not see
your password or your messages.

## Keeping your posts up to date

The extension checks each profile about once a day. It needs Chrome open
and you signed in to LinkedIn. Nothing is checked while Chrome is closed.

## Troubleshoot

### The profile says "Failed" or stays on "Queued"

Open Chrome, sign in to LinkedIn, and click the extension's icon. If it
shows **Connect FounderHQ**, pair it again. Otherwise press **Check now**.

### A full re-scan does not finish

Open the profile's menu in **Manage profiles** and choose
**Re-scan full history**. Keep the LinkedIn tab in front until it is done.
