Add keywords
Give Publish the searches you want to rank for, and add the ones Google already shows you for.
A keyword is what a customer types into a search engine. Publish plans a post for each one. About 5 minutes to add your first set.
Add keywords
- Open Publish → Keyword Planner and press Add keyword.
- Type one keyword per line.
- Check the line under the box: it names the country and language these keywords are for. Press Change to pick others.
- Press Add keywords.
Publish works out the intent of each keyword and the kinds of post that fit it. Posts for the new keywords then appear in the calendar.
Aim for 30 to 60 keywords to start. A brand can have 100 active keywords.
Research a keyword
Click the pencil on a keyword, then press Research. Astro looks at what ranks for it today. This takes about a minute.
Select several keywords and press Research in the bar to do them together.
Adjust a keyword
The same dialog lets you correct what Publish worked out.
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Search intent | Informational, Commercial, Transactional, or Navigational |
| Funnel stage | Top, middle, or bottom of the funnel |
| Post types | Up to 4 kinds of post Astro may write for this keyword |
| Priority | From 0 to 100. A higher priority is planned sooner. |
| Country and Language | Who the post is written for |
Post types
| Group | Types |
|---|---|
| Guide | Explainer, How-to, Checklist |
| Listicle | Round-up, Examples, Statistics |
| Comparison | Versus, Buyer's guide, Alternatives |
| On their own | Use case, Case study |
Astro never chooses Case study by itself, because a case study needs a real customer story. Add it to a keyword when you have one to tell.
Pause or archive a keyword
Click a keyword's status to change it.
| Status | What happens |
|---|---|
| Active | Publish plans posts for it |
| Paused | No new posts are planned. The keyword keeps its place. |
| Archived | Out of the list. You can restore it. |
Select several keywords to Pause, Activate, or Archive them together.
Add what Google already shows you for
The Google suggestions tab lists searches Google already shows your site for. It needs Google Search Console: see Get indexed.
Publish checks Google once a day. For each suggestion you see the impressions and your rank.
- Press the plus to add a suggestion to My keywords. Publish plans nothing for a suggestion until you add it.
- Press the eye to hide one you do not want.
Verify
Your keywords are under My keywords with the status Active. Open Publish → Calendar: posts for them are on the calendar.
The columns
Press Columns to choose what the table shows. Impressions and Rank fill in once Google Search Console is connected. Volume and Difficulty have no data yet.
