Build a dashboard
Keep the charts your team watches in one place. Astro builds each one from a sentence.
A dashboard is a page of charts your whole team sees. Each chart is called an insight. You do not build an insight by hand: you describe it, and Astro makes it. About 5 minutes for a first dashboard.
Before you start
You need events arriving in Analytics, and an AI provider for Astro.
Create the dashboard
Open Analytics → Dashboards and press New dashboard. Give it a name, such as "Weekly growth", and press Create dashboard.
Everyone on your team sees this brand's dashboards.
Ask Astro for an insight
Press Ask Astro on the empty dashboard. Describe the chart:
- "Add an insight on visitors this month"
- "Add where visitors come from, last 30 days"
- "Show signups by week for the last quarter"
Astro builds the insight and adds it to the dashboard.
You can also build an insight in Analytics → Chats, then choose Add to dashboard from its menu.
Arrange the cards
Open the dashboard's menu and choose Edit layout. Drag a card to move it. Drag its corner to resize it.
Add text adds a note for your team. Type / in it for headings and
lists.
Set the period and filters
The bar at the top sets one period and one set of filters for every card. Press Save as default to keep them for the team.
A card says so when it keeps its own period, or cannot follow the dashboard's filters.
Verify
Reload the dashboard. Your cards are there with current numbers. Refresh all reads them again.
Change an insight
Open the menu on a card.
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit insight | Opens the editor: series, filters, breakdown, period, and how it is drawn |
| Ask Astro about this | Attaches the insight to your next message, so you can ask why a number moved |
| Show definition | Shows exactly what the insight counts |
| Download CSV, Download PNG | Takes the numbers or the picture with you |
| Remove from dashboard | Takes it off this dashboard. The insight itself is kept. |
Changing an insight that is on a dashboard changes it for your team, so Astro asks you to approve it first. See Approve changes.
In the editor
| Section | What you set |
|---|---|
| Series | What is counted: total events, unique people, unique visits, or a sum or average of a property |
| Filters | Which events, people, or visits to keep |
| Breakdown | A property to split the result by |
| Display | Line, area, bars, table, a single number, funnel, retention, pie, or map |
Press Apply to keep your changes.
An insight Astro built from a custom query cannot be changed in the editor. Ask Astro to change it.
